The world is in a change. Greater problems are standing against us and we have to change our way of living and thinking. This project shows a provoking vision into the near future by mentioning an alternative way of living in a subterranean world.

„below does not mean to be low“
living in an underground world is possible. even building a complete house beneath the surface is no longer just fiction. With my poject, i want to show you one way of dealing with problems like darkness and structure one need to survive within and to colonize this new biosphere.

„steam bending a framework“
Relating to the fact that i want to create a functional structure by not using more than one material, bending wood with steam comes into my mind.
Bringing an old and nearly extinct handicraft back to life was one main target i focussed onto. 

„bioluminescence“
while searching for ways to enlighten subterranean biotops, i found it quite honourable to gain light in an ecological way. luminescence, the ability to safe light for a period of time, could be a possible solution. 
After a certain researches with the capability of light itself and the differences between several kinds of luminescence, it was even more exciting to me, when i realized that there is another form of producing light, called bioluminescence.
This special form of luminescence allows living creatures to safe and even produce light. Especially in the darker regions of our world, such as the deep sea, but even right in front of us animals like fireflys try to enlighten theire way through nature. Microorganisms even have the ability to create light without losing energy in form of heat just by moving aound and encourage theire metabolism.
